Eternals' Kit Harington Didn't Know Who His Post-Credit Scene Co-Star Was - CBR - Comic Book Resources

WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Marvel's Eternals, now in theaters.

Kit Harington had no idea who his scene partner was when filming the post-credit scene for Eternals.

Eternals' mid-credit and post-credit scenes have been a topic of controversy since being leaked ahead of the film's release. Harington in particular has been vocally frustrated with the press for leaking the scenes, and he's now revealed that he only found out who was in them a few weeks ago himself. Speaking to Fandom, the actor said that he was left in the dark about the true identity of his scene partner for his own post-credit scene. Harington shared is excitement about the scene, saying, "It’s really cool. [Chloé] texted me about that a couple of weeks ago and it sort of blew my mind. I didn’t know that that would be the case, so it’s pretty exciting for me."

In his scene, Harington's Dane Whitman stands seemingly alone, anxiously staring at the Ebony Blade, a family heirloom that gives whoever wields it the power of the Black Knight in Marvel's comics. However, before Dane can firmly grasp the sword in his hand, he hears a whisper saying "Sure you're ready for that, Mr. Whitman?" The mysterious voice belongs to Mahershala Ali, making his long-awaited MCU debut as Blade.

Speaking on the chance to expand on the hero's potential, Harington said, "I came into this knowing that there would be, hopefully, some cool possibilities for the future and also looking at the character and responding to the character as I saw it on every level, in every platform." He expressed his excitement for where it could lead: "This is a great intro into the Marvel world and I’m just very happy that this movie is the one that I got to do it in."

In addition to Blade's shocking post-credit arrival, Eternals added a pair of cosmic heroes to the MCU through its mid-credit scene. As the remaining Eternals traversed the stars after the events of the film, they were rudely interrupted by Pip the Troll, played by Patton Oswald. Pip then drunkenly introduced Eros, brother of Thanos, who is played by Harry Styles. The appearance of Pip and Eros, alongside the shocking ending of Eternals, could be hinting at further adventures with these characters.

At this time, Marvel has yet to announce any future installments in the series. However, Nate Moore, one of the producers of the film, has talked in the past about plans for an Eternals trilogy.

Directed by Chloé Zhao, Eternals is now in theaters.
