Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly trying to rebuild their relationship with the Queen, and have offered to fly over to the UK so that Her Majesty can meet their three-month-old daughter, Lilibet.

The Queen is yet to meet Lilibet, who was born in June this year, and has not seen her great-grandson Archie since late 2019.

In recent weeks Harry has made several "olive branch" calls to the Queen and his family, following the fall out from his and Meghan's interview with Oprah earlier this year, The Sun reports.

As well as introducing the Queen to her namesake, the couple are keen to plan their daughter's christening – with Windsor Castle being top of their venue list.

Their proposed visit would be Meghan's first return to the UK since March 2020 after she and Harry stepped back from Royal duties. Harry returned earlier this year in April to attend his grandfather Prince Philip's funeral, and then again in July to unveil a statue dedicated to his mother, Princess Diana. Royal biographer Omid Scobie reported that Harry met The Queen privately twice during his stay in April.

But, according to The Sun, some senior Royal staff are "stunned" by the couple's request to meet with the Queen.

A Royal source said: "Harry and Meghan have made this offer but a lot of people are shocked by the sheer nerve of it. They may genuinely want to see the Queen but it’s breathtaking given what they’ve put her through this year."

The insider also revealed there's been discussions as to whether Harry and Meghan will be invited to celebrate Christmas with the Royal Family this year. The source added, "Her Majesty’s staff have not responded so far [to the request]. In fact there has also been discussion about Christmas — and whether an invitation should be sent to Harry and Meghan, after they spurned one last year."

"The Queen is still very fond of Harry, and would love to see Lilibet and her brother Archie. But courtiers are surprised by the move," the insider continued.

Since leaving the UK and stepping back from Royal duties, the couple purchased an £11million mansion in Montecito, California. They also set up a non-profit foundation and signed exclusive deals with Spotify and Netflix, believed to be worth over £100 million.

Speaking about their decision to leave the Royal Family, the Sussexes said: "After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen. It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment."
