DAMAGE UNDONE? Harry and Meghan almost exposed the racist royal - Toronto Sun

Even Oprah Winfrey couldn’t get Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to dish on who the racist royal is.

Harry and Meghan were very close to revealing which royal made the racist remarks prior to son Archie’s birth, but made a game-time decision not to because it would have been too “damaging.”

In the updated edition of the biography Finding Freedom, authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand allege that the couple considered “sharing this detail” about the unnamed royal who asked “how dark” their unborn child would be, reported the Daily Mail.

Meghan, however, shut it down, allegedly telling Oprah, “I think it would be very damaging to them.”

Instead, when Winfrey asked if they would expose the royal, Harry said, “That conversation I’m never going to share, but at the time, it was awkward; I was a bit shocked.”

He did clarify that it was neither Queen Elizabeth nor Prince Philip.

Meghan’s No. 1 enemy, Piers Morgan, called the couple “gutless weasels” and said they should “name the supposed Royal racist and let them respond. Otherwise, you continue to smear the whole family.”

Perhaps the real reason Meghan and Harry aren’t outing the alleged racist is that they could face legal action.

Attorney Mark Stephens told Mail+ that if the couple did expose the royal, they could have been sued for libel and breach of privacy.

“First of all, the exact words that were said would have to be identified, and the context they were made in,” explained Stephens. “Was it racist or was it just an inquiry?”

Context and intention are key, as well as determining if the question about Archie’s skin colour had a “racist undertone,” or if it was truly intended to be racist, he added.

The updated edition, set to be published next week, also alleges that some royals were “quietly pleased” Meghan missed Prince Philip’s funeral in April because they feared her appearance would “create a spectacle.”

Harry could have used his wife’s support, though. He and his father, Prince Charles, were only on “light speaking terms” at the funeral, the book claims.

“However brief their conversations, they were steps forward in a necessary healing process for the pair,” said one insider.

However damaging their infamous interview with Oprah was to the Royal Family, the book details that Meghan found it “cathartic” and “liberating.”
