Almost one year after the first trailer arrived, Warner Bros. Pictures has released the official second trailer for celebrated filmmaker Denis Villeneuve’s new big-screen adaptation of the classic Frank Herbert novel “Dune” arriving in cinemas and on HBO Max on October 22nd.
The first of two proposed films based on the first book, the story is set in the distant future and follows Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet) whose noble family accepts control of the desert planet Arrakis.
As the only planet capable of producing the highly valuable resource known as the spice melange which allows for space travel, control of Arrakis is highly contested amongst the noble families.
When the Atreides are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion, and man’s relationship to nature as a betrayed Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s control of Arrakis.
Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Jason Momoa, Stellan Skarsgard, Charlotte Rampling, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan-Brewster and Stephen McKinley Henderson also star.
The trailer follows on from an IMAX extended preview of the film this week which showed off the opening ten minutes of the movie to rave reviews. Reports on that extended preview confirm one key change compared to the two previous screen adaptations – the opening exposition voiceover is being done by the character of Chani (Zendaya) rather than Princess Irulan.
