Admission to the Calgary Stampede will be free Sunday, the final day of the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.
Organizers made the announcement Saturday, saying Stampede Park will open at 10 a.m. and the free admission will run until midnight. General admission to the grounds has been $20 prior to Sunday, although it was dropped to $9 on Thursday as a promotion.
The offer is subject to park capacity limits.
“We are humbled and grateful for the support we have received from our community,” said president and chairman of the Stampede Board Steve McDonough, in a news release. “This celebration is for Calgarians, and we would like to invite everyone to ride with us one more time on Sunday.”

The Calgary Stampede has been running since July 8.
It is the first major event to take place in Canada since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. While the province did not impose any restrictions, workers were required to wear masks while on shift and entry into the Nashville North music tent and beer garden required a proof of vaccination or a negative result from a rapid test.
Attendance at the grounds was expected to be around 50 per cent of past years’ capacity numbers, and the midway was redesigned in 2021 to allow guests to have more space between one another. Physically distanced seating options were also made available in the rodeo grandstand.
The grounds remained busy Saturday afternoon, with people milling about the midway in the warm afternoon sun. There were long lines to get onto rides and people continued to wait patiently at various food stands.
Most people remained maskless, however some in attendance chose to wear various face coverings on the grounds.
“Here’s to everyone who took steps to walk forward with us. To the sponsors who stood by our side. To the volunteers and employees who stood tall. To the athletes, entertainers, and participants who showed up and showed us the way,” read the news release announcing the Sunday free admission. “To our community, our city. We couldn’t have taken these steps without you walking with us, side by side.”
