‘Vax-a-thon’: Fraser Health hosting weekend overnight COVID-19 vaccine clinic in Surrey - News 1130

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – An overnight vaccination clinic, believed to be the first in B.C., is taking place in Surrey this weekend, and it’s being dubbed the “ultimate all-nighter.”

Fraser Health will be hosting the “Vax-a-thon” at the Guildford Recreation Centre in Surrey from Saturday, June 19 until Sunday, June 20 in an effort to get more people their first shot against COVID-19.

The health authority is dubbing the Saturday night event an “Mask-erade,” while Sunday is being touted as “Doses with Dad,” and hopes to vaccinate 7,000 people during the 32-hour blitz.

“The plan of action: exciting activities including a mask-erade, red carpet, donated door prizes and more. Your unvaccinated friends/family won’t want to miss out,” reads the Fraser Health website.

The vaccinations will start at 11 a.m. Saturday, and last until 7 p.m. the next day. Vaccines will be available to all eligible people 12 years and older in the region who haven’t received a first jab.

Fraser Health says thousands of appointments have already been booked, and that 650 walk-in appointments will be available each day.

“During the 20 or so minute appointment each person has for their immunization, they can enjoy live music and other exciting, physically distanced entertainment while receiving their COVID-19 immunization. They’ll also have a chance to win donated door prizes, courtesy of our industry partners and others,” the health authority adds.
