With all the drama stemming from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, at least two royals are making light of the controversial conversation.
Prince Edward, 57, and wife Sophie Wessex, 56, couldn’t help but joke about the Q&A when asked by The Telegraph if they’d seen it.
Sophie responded “what interview?” while Edward added, “Oprah who?”
The Earl and Countess of Wessex chose to focus on the progress the family is making, sharing that Harry had a “lengthy chat” with them after the Oprah interview.
During the CBS interview, Harry and Meghan discussed their decision to exit their roles as senior royals after there was allegedly a discussion about the color of their son Archie’s skin. The “Suits” alum, who is pregnant with a baby girl, also said that she was suicidal during her time in the spotlight and repeatedly asked the palace for help to no avail.
Harry went into detail in his AppleTV+ show about how Meghan — with whom he just celebrated his three-year wedding anniversary — told him that she was suicidal.
“The scariest thing for her was her clarity of thought. She hadn’t lost it — she wasn’t crazy or self-medicating, be it through pills or alcohol, she was absolutely sober,” he said. “She was completely sane, yet in the quiet of night, these thoughts woke her up.
“The thing that stopped her from seeing it through was how unfair it would be on me after everything that had happened to my mum and to now be put in the position of losing another woman in my life with a baby inside her, our baby.”
Harry also compared his relationship with Meghan to the romance his late mother, Princess Diana, had with Dodi Fayed.
“My mother was chased to her death while she was in a relationship with someone that wasn’t white, and now look what’s happened,” he said in the show. “You want to talk about history repeating itself. They’re not going to stop until [Meghan] dies.”
