Music fans who may have been worried about a country-heavy live music lineup at the Calgary Stampede can put their fears to rest.
The Stampede Summer Stage lineup was announced Thursday morning and it includes a wealth of Canadian pop, rock and rap artists.
Canadian rockers The Trews are getting top billing and will kick off the return to live music on Sneek-a-Peek night.
Other rock radio staples such as the Sam Roberts Band, Big Wreck and The Sheepdogs, will take turns headlining over 11 nights, as will Vancouver-based Dear Rouge, Nova Scotia rapper Classified, and pop-punk rockers Marianas Trench.
Blue Rodeo will close out the stage on the final night of the Stampede.
Supporting acts throughout the festival will include Calgary’s own The Static Shift, Snotty Nose Rez Kids, k-os, Jessia, Jess Knights and more.
Access to the Stampede Summer Stage is included with the price of admission.
Kyle Corner, manager of Stampede programming, said the lineup offers a diverse range of genres and is a throwback to an event the Stampede held in the 1970s called Summertown.
“A 100 per cent home-grown lineup is our way of tipping our hats to the open-air concert area that started it all, and of course we are kicking it up a bunch of notches with nearly 30 performances in 11 days this July,” said Corner in a release.
