Prince William Says Emma Stone Should Have Been Stopped by Buckingham Palace Security During Filming of ‘Cruella’ - PureWow

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge love movies just like the rest of us.

The pair recently held a special screening of Disney's Cruella at the The Palace of Holyroodhouse to honor National Health Service workers for all their vital work. But prior to the screening, Prince William and Kate Middleton sat down with stars Emma Stone and Emma Thompson to discuss the filming of Cruella.

Stone revealed what it was like filming all over the city, saying, “It was so much fun, we were all over London...They transformed Carnaby Street into '70s London, which was amazing.” She also got the opportunity to film in front of some royal buildings, adding, “And then, we were in front of Buckingham Palace at one point. I was riding a motorcycle around the mall.” Prince William jokingly responded, “We should have had you stopped Emma, it's very dangerous.”

Meanwhile, Thompson discussed the extravagant costumes in the film, telling the royal couple, “Wait 'till you see the clothes, it's unbelievable.” She also joked that she could relate to the period costumes of the ‘70s, saying, “I kept looking at all the frocks and thinking, 'I think that's mine. I'm sure I've worn that.' You won't remember because you're all too young.”

While the conversation centered around the film, the talk turned to social distancing at one point, where Prince William discussed a funny encounter during one of his recent royal engagements. “I got propositioned by a 96-year-old lady called Betty yesterday, who wanted to kiss me,” he revealed. The duke told her that this would result in a "slap on the back of the head" for poor social distancing. Middleton had a quick response, claiming, “This is what happens when I'm not around.”

After the exclusive interview, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge held a drive-in screening of Cruella two days before its official release in the U.K.

The event was shared on the couple's joint Instagram account, where they said: “Movie night at the Palace of Holyroodhouse for NHS Staff...As Joint Patrons of @NHSCharitiesTogether, William and I are absolutely delighted that so many of you could join us here tonight. We wanted to thank you for the extraordinary dedication, commitment and personal sacrifice you have shown in supporting our communities through this pandemic. We invite you to grab your popcorn, cuddle up under your blankets and be transported to 1970s Britain for an evening of much-deserved fun, drama, glamour and escapism!”

Adblock test (Why?)
