Rian Johnson’s ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ To World Premiere At Toronto Film Festival - Deadline

The Toronto Film Festival said Wednesday that Netflix’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Rian Johnson’s follow-up to his hit 2019 murder mystery pic, will world premiere at this year’s edition of the festival, which runs September 8-18.

No firm date has been set for the premiere. Knives Out, which grossed $311.6 million worldwide when it bowed in November 2019, also had its world premiere that year at TIFF.

Daniel Craig returns to the film franchise as gentleman detective Benoit Blanc, who this time travels to Greece to peel back the layers of a mystery involving a new cast of colorful suspects. The A-list cast this time includes Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick and Madelyn Cline along with Kate Hudson and Dave Bautista.

Johnson directed and wrote the pic and produces with his producing partner Ram Bergman.

Netflix has been slowly rolling out info for its franchise since it landed it a blockbuster deal in March 2021 after a bidding battle with Apple and Amazon. As Deadline broke, Netflix pacted with Johnson to make two sequels with Johnson and the helm and Craig as Blanc.

The original Knives Out starred Christopher Plummer, Ana de Armas, Chris Evans, Michael Shannon, Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Johnson, LaKeith Stanfield and more and was acquired in a single-picture deal by MRC, which distributed it via Lionsgate. The first film cost $40 million and was owned and licensed by Johnson and Bergman on a picture-by-picture basis, meaning they could get the best price they could find for follow-ups.

Sources said the final Netflix deal for the sequels was worth north of $400 million, making it one of the biggest streamer pacts in history.

The original bowed in the holiday season in 2019 and Johnson earned an Original Screenplay Oscar nomination for the script. A holiday release is also planned for Glass Onion though no date has been set by Netflix.

Earlier this month, Netflix revealed the title for the sequel, with Johnson weighing in on the stand-alone nature of the films, a la his inspiration Agatha Christie.

The Toronto Film Festival is readying for a return as a fully in-person event after being all but virtual the past two years during the pandemic. Last year, Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast claimed the TIFF People’s Choice Award, often a bellwether tipping Oscar success; the Focus Features pic ended up with seven Oscar noms including Best Picture, and like Johnson with Knives Out, Branagh won the Original Screenplay prize.

The Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery news is the first programming to be revealed for this year’s TIFF.

After Popular DJ Duo’s Firing, Vancouver Radio Station Has Played ‘Killing In The Name’ For 10-Plus Hours - Deadline

A Vancouver soft-rock radio outlet is raging today after two popular DJs were fired. Chances are, the station brass is equally unthrilled as KISS-FM has been spinning only Rage Against the Machine’s “Killing in the Name” ever since. Over and over.

Among the song’s key lyrics is, of course, “F*ck you, I won’t do what you tell me” — repeated multiple times at the end.

The morning duo of Kevin Lim and Sonia Sidhu, aka Kevin & Sonia, were off the air last week, but Lim tweeted on the station’s official account early this morning that they would be back today and there was a “big announcement” coming. It turned out to be that the pair has been let go after five years on the air, which Lim tweeted at 8:39 a.m. PT. Shortly after the latter tweet landed, began to spin the incendiary 30-year-old Rage track on repeat — pausing only to take listener “requests.” Those requests have been for, you guessed it, “Killing in the Name.”

The song, with the offending expletive muted out, also is playing on the station’s website. Another repeated phrase is, “Now you’re under control”; it’s not known exactly who is in control of KISS-FM at the moment, but it’s unlikely that they’re wearing a suit.

And the stunt shows no sign of abetting.

It’s not the first time the revered protest song has been used to protest something other than its original target: police brutality. The track from the Los Angeles quartet’s 1992 debut record topped the UK singles chart at Christmastime in 2009. A Facebook group pushed people to buy the song in an effort to thwart a song from The X Factor from topping the UK chart at Christmas for a fifth consecutive year. It worked.

R. Kelly sentenced to 30 years in prison for sex trafficking, racketeering - CBC News

R&B star R. Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison Wednesday for using his superstardom to subject young fans — some whom were just children — to systematic sexual abuse.

The singer and songwriter, 55, was convicted of racketeering and sex trafficking last year at a trial that gave voice to accusers who had once wondered if their stories were being ignored because they were Black women.

U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly imposed the sentence after hearing from several survivors who attested to how Kelly's exploitation reverberated across their lives.

"You made me do things that broke my spirit. I literally wished I would die because of how low you made me feel," said one unnamed survivor, directly addressing Kelly, who kept his hands folded and his eyes downcast. "Do you remember that?"

Kelly didn't speak at his sentencing, where he also was ordered to pay a $100,000 fine.

Case about 'violence, cruelty and control,' judge says

"Although sex was certainly a weapon that you used, this is not a case about sex. It's a case about violence, cruelty and control," the judge told Kelly.

The sentence caps a slow-motion fall for Kelly, who was adored by legions of fans and sold millions of albums even after allegations about his abuse of young girls began circulating publicly in the 1990s.

Widespread outrage over Kelly's sexual misconduct didn't come until the MeToo reckoning, reaching a crescendo after the release of the docuseries Surviving R. Kelly.

In this courtroom sketch, R. Kelly and his lawyer, Jennifer Bonjean, left, attend his sentencing hearing in federal court on Wednesday in New York where the former R&B superstar was sentenced to 30 years in prison after being convicted last fall of sex trafficking and racketeering. (Elizabeth Williams/The Associated Press)

Kelly manipulated millions of fans into believing he was someone other than the man the jury saw, another accuser said.

Victims "have sought to be heard and acknowledged," she said. "We are no longer the preyed-on individuals we once were."

A third woman who sobbed as she spoke, said Kelly's conviction restored her faith in the legal system.

"I once lost hope," she said, addressing the court and prosecutors, "but you restored my faith."

The woman said Kelly victimized her after she went to a concert when she was 17. She said she didn't speak up at the time because she was "afraid, naive and didn't know how to handle the situation."

"Silence," she said, "is a very lonely place."

Lawyers wanted more lenient sentence

Kelly's lawyers had argued in court papers he should get no more than 10 years in prison because he "experienced a traumatic childhood involving severe, prolonged childhood sexual abuse, poverty, and violence."

As an adult with "literacy deficiencies," the star was "repeatedly defrauded and financially abused, often by the people he paid to protect him," his lawyers said.

The multiplatinum-selling Grammy-winning singer is known for songs including the 1996 hit I Believe I Can Fly and the cult hit Trapped in the Closet.

He was sued in 1997 by a woman who alleged sexual battery and sexual harassment while she was a minor, and he later faced criminal child pornography charges related to a different girl in Chicago. A jury there acquitted him in 2008, and he settled the lawsuit.

All the while, Kelly continued to sell millions of albums.

The Brooklyn federal court jury convicted him after hearing about how he used his entourage of managers and aides to meet girls and keep them obedient, an operation prosecutors said amounted to a criminal enterprise.

Kelly, born Robert Sylvester Kelly, used his "fame, money and popularity" to systematically "prey upon children and young women for his own sexual gratification," prosecutors wrote in a court filing earlier this month.

Several accusers testified that Kelly subjected them to perverse and sadistic whims when they were underage.

The accusers alleged they were ordered to sign nondisclosure forms and were subjected to threats and punishments such as violent spankings if they broke what one referred to as "Rob's rules."

Some said they believed video recordings of them having sex would be used against them if they exposed what was happening.

According to testimony, Kelly gave several accusers herpes without disclosing he had an STD, coerced a teenage boy to join him for sex with a naked girl who emerged from underneath a boxing ring in his garage, and shot a shaming video of one victim showing her smearing feces on her face as punishment for breaking his rules.

Aaliyah marriage scheme

Evidence also was presented about a fraudulent marriage scheme hatched to protect Kelly after he feared he had impregnated R&B singer Aaliyah in 1994 when she was just 15. Witnesses said they were married in matching jogging suits using a licence falsely listing her age as 18; he was 27 at the time.

Aaliyah worked with Kelly, who wrote and produced her 1994 debut album, Age Ain't Nothing But A Number. She died in a plane crash in 2001 at age 22.

An earlier defence memo suggested prosecutors' arguments for a higher sentence overreached by falsely claiming Kelly participated in the paying of a bribe to a government official in order to facilitate the illegal marriage.

Kelly's lawyers also said it was wrong to assert he should get more time because he sexually abused one of his victims — referred to in court as "Jane" — after her parents entrusted him to help her with her musical career.

"The record shows that Jane's parents directed Jane to lie to the defendant about her age and then encouraged her to seduce him," the papers said.

The Associated Press does not name people who say they have been sexually assaulted or abused, unless they come forward publicly.

Kelly has been jailed without bail since in 2019. He's still facing child pornography and obstruction of justice charges in Chicago, where a trial is scheduled to begin Aug. 15.

Elvis and Top Gun: Maverick Both Earn $30.5 Million at the Domestic Weekend Box Office in a Battle for #1 - IGN - IGN

Elvis and Top Gun: Maverick have both earned $30.5 million at the domestic weekend box office so far and will have one final battle today, June 26, to see who comes out on top.

As reported by Variety and Box Office Mojo, Top Gun: Maverick currently has a slight lead at $30,500,176 in its fifth weekend in theaters. Elvis, which debuted this weekend, is sitting at $30,500,000.

Top Gun: Maverick is having one impressive run at the box office and has now reached $521 million domestically. It has also crossed the coveted $1 billion mark at the global box office and has become the highest-grossing movie in 2022 and the first film to pass $1 billion since Spider-Man: No Way Home earned $1.9 billion last year.

On the other hand, Elvis raked in another $20 million from 51 markets internationally and has a global tally of $50.5 million so far.

Top Gun: Maverick and Elvis have dropped down Jurassic World Dominion, the film that held the #1 spot for the past two weekends, to third place as it only earned $26.4 million. However, that was enough to bring the latest Jurassic World film past $300 million domestically and $746.6 million globally.

The Black Phone, which also debuted this weekend, took fourth place by earning $23.3 million domestically. It brought in $13.4 million overseas to help bring its global total to $35.8 million. The Black Phone only cost $18 million to produce, so it is well on a way to a successful box office run.

Lightyear rounded out the top five with $17.7 million, but it saw a 65% drop from its opening weekend. Lightyear has reached $88 million in North America and has earned $152.4 million at the global box office.

For more check out our review of Elvis and The Black Phone, how The Black Phone director's traumatic past inspired the horror film, and why the Elvis team says "credit needs to be given" to Rock & Roll's black pioneers.

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong told London concert-goers that he is "renouncing" his United States citizenship in protest over the Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v. Wade.

Performing at London Stadium just hours after the majority-conservative court ruled that abortion rights are no longer protected, the 50-year-old rock star lashed out at the decision on Friday night.

"F*** America," Armstrong said on stage for the Hella Mega tour his band is headlining alongside Weezer, Fall Out Boy and others. "I'm f***ing renouncing my citizenship. I'm f***ing coming here."

As the crowd cheered in response, the California native carried on his diatribe.

"There's just too much f***ing stupid in the world to go back to that miserable f***ing excuse for a country," continued Armstrong, who at one point during the show had a Union Jack flag draped over himself. "Oh, I'm not kidding. You're going to get a lot of me in the coming days."

The Daily Mail reports that Armstrong also yelled "f*** the Supreme Court of America" before playing the 2004 hit "American Idiot," Green Day's response to the Iraq War and the media frenzy surrounding it.

Armstrong — who joins musicians like Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Phoebe Bridgers, Megan Thee Stallion and more in condemning the Supreme Court ruling on stage — has previously described himself as politically independent. The singer hasn't shied away from calling out politicians, including former presidents George W. Bush and Donald Trump. Most recently, Green Day has performed in front of a banner reading "F*** Ted Cruz," in reference to the Republican senator following the recent mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

Garth Brooks in Edmonton: Fans enjoy the party despite some logistical challenges - CTV News Edmonton

Fans leaving the Garth Brooks concert at Commonwealth Stadium Friday night were happy and smiling, despite some logistical issues that delayed the show and frustrated some.

"Amazing energy. He's amazing, I almost cried on one of the songs that he was singing about someone that he cured cancer for them. It was really, really nice," said Evelyn, a young woman in a cowboy hat.

"It was super awesome. Garth performed so amazing, as always, and we had a really good time."

Larry and Lorraine drove about five hours from Eston, Sask. to see the country star at the first of two sold-out Edmonton shows.

"(The show was) fantastic, so glad he came to Canada and so glad he came to Edmonton. He has a heart for people and when he performs his heart is on his sleeve and he really cares about what he does," Lorraine told CTV News Edmonton outside of the stadium.

Brooks started the show late because of "delays on the highway and the park & ride" and reports of some confusion at the stadium surfaced online.

"Know your gate and be prepared for little direction. It’s a gong show here. They’re rusty. Super super rusty," Tweeted Erin Stevenson, a city councillor in Spruce Grove. "The positive? People are being very kind to each other. Genuinely happy."

"You couldn't move at some points. Definitely not COVID friendly, but the merch was long and the beer and lines and stuff was long, but it was worth it," said fan Caitlin after the show. She said she waited about 45 minutes to buy a souvenir.

Others seemed to forget all about the hassles that can come with a big event once the music started.

"All of Edmonton and surrounding areas coming together at once, finally, it's so nice to be out in public again with each other. That was the best part," said a smiling woman named Cassidy as she was leaving.

Brooks also enjoyed himself, saluting the city and the country in a post-show Tweet.

His second show at Commonwealth is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Elvis Went To The White House Because He Wanted To Become An FBI Agent, And 20 Other Facts About Elvis To Know Before Seeing The New Biopic - BuzzFeed

BRB, booking a trip to Graceland immediately!

Elvis, the biopic covering the iconic singer's life, is poised to be one of the summer's biggest movies.

In case you're someone who likes to read up on all of the facts before seeing the movie, I rounded up some fascinating stories and facts about the King of Rock and Roll's life, from details about his years in the military to clearing up some rumors about his tragic death.

Michael Ochs Archives

Here are 21 facts about Elvis's legendary life and career:

1. Although Elvis is known for his trademark dark pompadour, he actually was a natural blonde! Presley was a big fan of Tony Curtis, an actor who dyed his hair black, so he decided to use shoe polish to achieve a similar look. Later in his career, Elvis switched to real hair dye and also began dyeing his eyebrows and eyelashes. When he would sweat on stage while performing, the dye would sometimes run into his eyes, causing pink eye.

2. Dr. George Nichopoulos, who treated the singer in the late 1960s until his death in 1977, was implicated for providing Elvis with drugs that may have contributed to his tragic death. In 1980, "Dr. Nick" had his medical license suspended for prescribing mass quantities of uncontrolled substances. Turns out, in the last year and a half of Elvis's life, he was prescribed over 12,000 pills by Dr. Nick and would travel with three suitcases full of medication at all times. Dr. Nick insisted the pills were actually for Elvis's entire entourage and that he was clear of any wrongdoing.

Dr. Nick later testified that he was willing to prescribe Presley whatever he wanted because he didn't want him to seek out drugs from other doctors or resort to buying drugs off the street.

3. While we all know Elvis as the King of Rock and Roll, he also starred in 31 movies, and supposedly almost nabbed the lead in A Star Is Born alongside Barbra Streisand. After Streisand was cast, filmmakers discussed Presley starring opposite her. While Elvis was on the way to meet Streisand, she said she was so nervous that she started painting her nails. Once Presley arrived, he took the nail polish and finished the job for her. Despite their chemistry, Elvis decided not to do the film. Some thought he felt the subject matter was too personal, while others believed he didn't want to star in a film where he was the second lead.

4. In December 1957, Elvis announced that he had been drafted into the US Army. His devastated fans wrote tens of thousands of letters to both the singer and the military, begging that Elvis be spared from military service. Despite the outcry, Elvis said he was willing to put his career on hold, telling the media it was “a duty I’ve got to fill and I’m going to do it.”

Elvis was adamant that he not receive any special treatment because of his fame. The military agreed to give Elvis an eight-week deferment so he could finish filming the movie King Creole, because he was worried about how much money the filmmakers would stand to lose if he dropped out of the project. After filming wrapped, Presley reported to basic training in 1958. He served for about two years and spent 18 months in Germany, where he was promoted to sergeant.

Because Elvis left for service during the height of his fame, his record company was desperate for more Elvis content and worked to string together four albums of unreleased songs and soundbites to satiate the public's Elvis obsession. One of the albums was even a recording of the press conference where he announced he was going into the military. Once he returned to the United States, he was immediately forced back in the recording studio — he even had to record a new song on a train on his return trip home. His military service eventually inspired Bye Bye Birdie, the musical in which a beloved star is drafted into the Army. Presley was even approached to star in the movie, but he declined because he said it felt like a parody of his own life.

5. At the height of Elvis's fame, over 60,000 children a year were diagnosed with polio. When the polio vaccine was developed in 1965, many were skeptical to get it, with vaccination rates among teenagers at only 0.6%. In order to persuade people to get vaccinated, Elvis agreed to get his vaccine on live television during The Ed Sullivan Show. After getting his shot, teenage vaccination rates went up to 80% in just six months.

6. Elvis was obsessed with karate and even earned a black belt in 1960. He first fell for karate while stationed in Germany. Upon returning to the United States, he vowed to keep up with his training and soon earned his first-degree black belt. As Elvis continued his training, he met Master Kang Rhee, who bestowed the singer with a seventh-degree black belt. Presley then went on to open his own karate studio in Memphis, called the Tennessee Karate Institute. While some have questioned if Elvis was that good at karate, those who he trained with said that he was actually very talented and was incredibly passionate about karate until his death.

7. Throughout his entire career, Elvis only performed in North America and only performed outside of the United States three times, all for shows in Canada. This was apparently at the behest of Elvis's manager, Colonel Tom Parker.

Parker, who was Dutch, was living in the United States illegally. He worried that if he left the United States for a show overseas, he wouldn't be allowed back in. Parker might have also had a more sinister reason for refusing to leave: some believe that Parker committed a gruesome murder in his hometown. When Parker, whose real name was suspected to be Andreas van Kuijk, left home for America in 1929, there was an unexplained murder. A young woman working in a shop in his hometown of Breda in the Netherlands had been beaten to death, and the store ransacked. While there isn't exact evidence that pinpoints Parker as the killer, some in his inner circle believe it was the real reason why he was so hesitant to leave the United States.

8. Despite the fact that Elvis was one of the most beloved stars of his time, he still had his fair share of haters. Parker decided he was going to manufacture "I Hate Elvis" buttons to sell in order to make money off the people who refused to buy pro-Elvis merchandise.

9. Graceland, Elvis's Memphis estate, was actually one of the first big ticket items Presley bought after becoming famous. He purchased the home for $100,000 in 1957, just one year after hitting it big. He was 22 years old. Presley lived at Graceland until his death and asked his parents to move in with him. Presley even recorded his final songs in the infamous Jungle Room, a den decked out in jungle-themed decor, where he supposedly spent most of his time because it reminded him of Hawaii.

After his death, Priscilla Presley became the executor of the estate until Elvis's only daughter, Lisa Marie, was old enough to inherit it. The taxes on the property were incredibly expensive, and Priscilla considered selling it. Instead, she decided to turn it into a public attraction to honor her ex-husband's life. Graceland opened to the public in 1982, and Priscilla was able to recoup all of the money she invested into restoring the home just one month after opening.

Now, Graceland ranks as the second-most visited home in the United States, just behind the White House, and generates an estimated $150 million a year for the city of Memphis. Presley's gravesite was moved to Graceland after an attempt to steal his body and hold it for ransom just two days after he had been buried at a cemetery in Memphis next to his mother.

10. Elvis's first television appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show made history for several reasons. Besides being one of the first times the King's signature dance moves were on display, it also marked the largest share of people tuned into the same show in American history. 82.6% of Americans with televisions were watching Presley make his hip-swinging debut, a television share that has never been beaten. The next time Presley appeared on the show, camera operators were instructed to keep the camera above his hips to prevent viewers from seeing his "vulgar" dance moves.

11. While stationed in Germany, Elvis met Priscilla Beaulieu, who was 14 years old, and fell for her. The pair dated for seven years, with Priscilla moving to Memphis to finish high school. After meeting Priscilla, he reportedly told a friend that she was "young enough that I can train her any way I want." Elvis refused to look at her unless she was wearing makeup, and would not have sex with her for years after she gave birth, telling her "he had never been able to make love to a woman who’d had a child." The pair married after being together for seven years, but eventually divorced after Priscilla decided she was tired of being Elvis's "living doll."

Bettmann / Bettmann Archive / Via Getty Images

Priscilla was just one of the many young women Elvis had a thing for. While dating Priscilla, Elvis said he valued her purity and refused to sleep with her until they were married. Instead, he slept with other women while Priscilla waited at home. While on tour, he would often handpick teenage girls he wanted to sleep with. After he and Priscilla divorced in 1972, Elvis dated a string of teenage girls before meeting Ginger Alden, a 21-year-old former beauty queen. In her memoir, Alden recalls Presley shooting the headboard of her bed with a pistol while she was sleeping because she had refused to bring him more yogurt earlier that day.

12. Later in his career, Elvis usually wore rhinestone-studded jumpsuits while performing. The jumpsuits initially weighed in at around 25 to 30 pounds, but as the beading became more intricate, they could weigh up to 75 pounds. His American Eagle jumpsuit, also known as the "Aloha" after wearing it for a concert special filmed in Hawaii, was his most expensive, costing $65,000 to make at the time. Today, it would likely cost four times as much.

13. Despite the fact that Elvis recorded over 600 songs during his career, he actually didn't write a single one of them. In some instances, Elvis's management told songwriters that he wouldn't record their songs unless he received a cowriting credit. He also never learned how to read music.

14. Never say Elvis wasn't a foodie! He once charted a flight from Graceland to Denver to get a peanut butter, jelly, and bacon sandwich. The sandwich, dubbed "The Fool's Gold Loaf," was basically an entire loaf of bread that had been hollowed out and filled with peanut butter, jelly, and nearly a pound of bacon.

15. In 1970, Elvis decided he wanted a federal narcotics agent badge, because he believed it meant that he would be able to travel the world with whatever guns and drugs he wanted, no questions asked. Upon spontaneously arriving in Washington, DC, Presley called the White House and told president Richard Nixon, "I will be here for as long as it takes to get the credentials of a federal agent." The meeting began with Presley telling Nixon that the Beatles were responsible for an increase in anti-American sentiments.

National Archives / Getty Images

Presley went on to add that he had been closely studying Communism and the rise in psychedelic drug culture in the United States to help him make his case for the badge. Despite not having any training or legitimate need to have the badge, Nixon granted the request but ended up giving Elvis a badge that had no actual power. To close out the trip, Elvis gifted Nixon a handgun from World War II that Presley had taken off the wall in his Los Angeles mansion before boarding his flight to the White House.

16. While many of the movies Elvis starred in featured his songs, the King actually had nothing to do with the film that includes the most of his songs. That honor goes to Lilo and Stitch, which boasts eight Elvis songs on the soundtrack.

Hulton Archive / Getty Images

17. In 1964, Elvis bought president Franklin Delano Roosevelt's presidential yacht. He paid $55,000 for the boat, which was often called the "floating White House." Soon after purchasing the boat, Elvis gave it to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, which is headquartered in Memphis, so they could sell it to raise funds for the hospital. In 1980, it was discovered that the boat was being used for drug smuggling and was recaptured off the coast of San Francisco, where it was repaired and opened to the public.

18. In 2012, a librarian in Memphis found a library book with a card signed by a 13-year-old Elvis in the back. It is the oldest known Elvis autograph.

Bettmann / Bettmann Archive / Via Getty Images

19. I've been seeing people say Elvis died of constipation all over my For You page (I have somehow ended up on Elvis TikTok), so let's clear it up once and for all. As a result of his addiction to opiates, Elvis suffered from severe constipation. Most doctors agree that, even though Presley died while on the toilet, he likely did not die from pooping, but from a massive heart attack that might have been triggered by the attempted bowel movement but was also due in part to his other health issues. He was 42 years old when he died in August 1977.

Archive Photos / Getty Images

20. For years, people have maintained that Elvis is actually still alive, and faked his own death for a variety of reasons. In 1989, a group of fans formed The Elvis Sighting Society to investigate possible sightings of the singer. Some even believe that he appeared as an extra in Home Alone.

Raymond Boyd / Getty Images

So why would Elvis fake his own death? In 1988, Gail Brewer-Giorgio pored over thousands of FBI documents and concluded that Elvis faked his own death and went into the witness protection program to escape the mafia. She said that in 1976, Elvis was enlisted as an undercover FBI agent to break up "The Fraternity" and had to disappear because he was about to be found out. Brewer-Giorgio even wrote a bestselling book about her theory. The FBI released the paperwork they had about the singer, and there is no mention of him assisting with any FBI intelligence.

Fotos International / Getty Images

Others use Elvis's tombstone as a sign that he's still alive. On the marker, his name is spelled Elvis Aaron Presley. However, when the singer was born, his middle name was originally spelled Aron. While some claim that Presley had preferred spelling it the way it appears on his grave, others say that it's intentionally spelled wrong because it would be disrespectful to put his actual name on a tombstone while he was still alive.

Elvis hits theaters on June 24.
